We have practices all over the area, so you come and learn the skills to become a great angler in many types of water and conditions. Sometimes we practice using a boat and sometimes on land. The boats are provided by two wonderful and generous boat captains.
When is it?
Fishing is an IHSA spring sport. Practice locations and times will vary sign up for Remind to get the most up to date reminders. We provide free transportation to and from practice that picks up and drops off at the high school. Sectionals are in the beginning of May, so practice will start as soon as the weather allows us to. Some practices will have boats and others will not.
How does it work?
The basic rules for IHSA competitive bass fishing are that each team is allowed to have 5 fish in their live well at all times. The team that finishes the day with the heaviest 5 fish wins. All fish are released at the end of the day. Live bait is not allowed in the competition. Teams can consist of 4 members, with 2 members in the boat at a time. Competitive fishing is so much different than fishing for leisure, it is much more intense but also still fun!
How can you join?
Anyone is welcome to join. Just attend the informational meeting. This is an IHSA sport, which means that students who wish to participate must have a parent consent form (including insurance), concussion form, drug testing consent form, copy of health insurance and a physical must all be turned into the athletic office before practice begins. Illinois DNR fishing laws apply so check and see if you need a license at http://www.dnr.illinois.gov/Pages/default.aspx . If you don’t have gear that is ok! We can provide some for you!
Feel free to contact with any questions!
